Carrick Confident Wins Will Come

Manchester United’s captain on the day, Michael Carrick, admits Saturday’s frustrating 1-1 draw with Arsenal at Old Trafford was "tough to take" but is confident playing in similar fashion will yield victories.

The Reds dominated the game against Arsene Wenger’s men, but saw Juan Mata’s strike cancelled out late on by Olivier Giroud with the Gunners' only attempt on target.

After the game, Carrick insisted that, despite the 89th-minute strike being a tough pill to swallow, the defensive display was a positive that the Reds can look to build on.

"We were in control, but you can never relax and switch off," Carrick told MUTV. "They have some real quality players, but I thought as a team we defended very well. Everyone stuck to the game plan and it worked really well.

"That makes it tougher to take. If you are getting stressed and hanging on, then it can be inevitable in a way, but the way the game was going, we felt in such control and the goal came from nowhere – it was tough to take."

Emphasising further on the positives from United's encouraging performance and looking ahead to a busy schedule of upcoming fixtures, Carrick believes the Reds' fortunes are sure to change if they continue to dominate games.

"In any game, I think you have to look to take positives from it. It’s a lot easier to deal with a result like that when you know you have played well, done everything you can and you deserve to win," he continued.

"The problem is when it hasn’t gone to plan and you think it should have been so much better and there are problems to solve, but I can’t really see problems that we need to solve.

"Of course, results are the major thing, but playing like that, more often than not, we are going to win games and I am sure that will happen between now and the end of the season."
