Boss Delivers Invitation To Supporters
Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has delivered a message to the Old Trafford supporters ahead of the visit of Liverpool on Sunday.
The boss admitted after Tuesday's EFL Cup semi-final with Hull City that he wanted more from the fans, the team and himself, even though the Tigers were beaten 2-0 to leave the Reds in a commanding position going into the second leg.
Although the prospect of a Wembley showdown with Liverpool or Southampton clearly excited the United faithful, it was noticeable that there were several songs relating to the Merseysiders, with the huge clash against Jurgen Klopp's side on the immediate horizon.
With such focus and anticipation on the weekend clash, it seems certain the players will be able to enjoy vociferous support throughout the 90 minutes, as the manager has requested.
"I always think that we are responsible for the fans' participation in the game," said Mourinho. "It's our responsibility.
"If we play very, very well or, if we play very enthusiastically, the fans come to the pitch and they play with us. When we don't play so well or with so much emotion and intensity, it's normal that the fans relax a little bit.
"We have amazing fans, I can only say fantastic things about them especially because you see the real fans when the moments are not good. When that has happened, we've had amazing fans behind us, pushing us and supporting us.
"So we have absolutely amazing fans, but what I feel is that Sunday is a special match for us and a special match for the Manchester United fans so my invitation is don't come to the theatre, come to play and come to play with us."
