Shaw Ready To Make United Comeback

Luke Shaw is ready to make his Manchester United comeback with the defender set to feature again soon for Jose Mourinho's men.

The England international has proved his fitness in training and is set to compete for the left-back slot with Matteo Darmian, Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young. Shaw is an option to appear in the two upcoming clashes with Hull City - the EFL Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday night and Premier League encounter next Wednesday - in addition to Sunday's FA Cup fourth-round tie against Wigan Athletic.

The 21-year-old has not figured for the Reds since being injured during the first half of the EFL Cup triumph over West Ham United in November with an illness scuppering his bid to return in the FA Cup third-round game with Reading earlier this month.

"He's ready to play now," confirmed the boss. "He's ready to play so now you can find [it] natural if he plays on Thursday, he plays Sunday or next Wednesday. He's now working without limitations so, now, he's ready.

"He is ready but it's a position we have other options [in] too so it's one of the positions where they have to fight, they have to compete, they have to show quality and stability in their performances to be in the team."

Mourinho also stressed Anthony Martial was right to take a break in Paris when not included in the matchday squad for the 1-1 draw at Stoke City, with David De Gea likely to be free to take his own weekend excursion if not required for the Wigan fixture.

"We don't have many days off," said the manager. "I like to give the players some freedom to choose if they need a weekend off when they're not selected so if, for him [Martial], it was better to go to Paris that's completely fine for the weekend.

"If nothing happens in terms of injuries, I'm going to play [Sergio] Romero and I'm going to leave, on the bench, Joel [Pereira]. David De Gea will be free if he wants to go to Spain and enjoy two days - I give the players this freedom of choice. So [there was] no problem at all with Anthony going to Paris."
