5 United Derby Heroes At City's Home

Here’s something for you to enjoy ahead of Thursday’s Manchester derby blockbuster – five winners scored by United at City’s Etihad Stadium…

Cristiano Ronaldo – City 0-1 United, 05/05/2007
It’s very nearly 10 years since Ronny’s penalty took United to the brink of a first title in four seasons. Edwin van der Sar kept out Darius Vassell's spot-kick 11 minutes from time to seal the victory and, the following day, the Reds were crowned champions with two games to spare, when Chelsea were held at Arsenal.

Wayne Rooney – City 0-1 United, 30/11/2008
The current skipper has scored seven goals in the Blues' backyard over the years and this one – the 100th club strike of his career – came just before the break and secured another narrow derby win for the Reds. Sir Alex Ferguson’s side were comfortable even after the dismissal of Ronaldo for a second bookable offence after he handled the ball 20 minutes from time.

Paul Scholes – City 0-1 United, 17/04/2010
“Can you believe it? Paul Scholes has won it with 15 seconds to go!” bellowed MUTV commentator Stewart Gardner after the Reds midfielder popped up at the death to head home Patrice Evra’s cross. The last-gasp victory kept United on the heels of leaders [and eventual champions] Chelsea, prompting a famous kiss from Gary Neville for his Class of '92 team-mate. Derby winners don’t come much more thrilling than this.

Robin van Persie – City 2-3 United, 09/12/2012
Another euphoric last-gasp clincher, this time to settle a high-scoring encounter against the reigning champions, as Robin’s deflected free-kick sent the away end into raptures. It put United six points clear at the top of the table and the Reds went on to wrest the title back from the Blues in Sir Alex’s final season in charge.

Marcus Rashford – City 0-1 United, 20/03/2016
The championship may not have been up for grabs last season but local pride – and a top-four place – certainly were. Enter an 18-year-old Mancunian, who etched his name into the storied history of this fixture with an ice-cool early finish, after displaying the frightening turn of speed that has become his trademark. Look away now, Martin Demichelis.
