Blind Happy To Play Anywhere For United

Daley Blind declared he is happy to play anywhere he is asked by Jose Mourinho after impressing as a centre-back in Manchester United's win at Burnley on Sunday.

The Dutchman has mainly operated at left-back or as part of a back-three this season but was called upon to fulfil the central defensive role against the Clarets after Marcos Rojo sustained knee ligament damage against Anderlecht on Thursday, joining the injured Phil Jones and Chris Smalling in the treatment room.

Blind formed a solid partnership with Eric Bailly at the heart of the defence to help the Reds keep another clean sheet in the 2-0 Premier League success at Turf Moor.

It was the first time he had started alongside Bailly in the league since September's Manchester derby defeat by City and, when asked about working in tandem with the Ivorian again, Blind told MUTV: “Yes, it was good. I think we have a good understanding in spite of the language [difference] but I think it went very well and we played particularly well.

"I feel very confident about the position [centre-back] myself. It was a very good performance from the team too, I think."

Blind operated at centre-back in a number of games last season – a role he has grown into well – but admitted he will happily occupy any position the boss requires him to and hopes his versatility will stand him in good stead for more game time in the remaining matches.

"I played there a lot of times last season and I feel confident in the position, I feel good in the position and feel comfortable," he added. "I'm happy to play there again and of course everybody knows me, I play where the manager needs me, and I just want to play like anybody else. I'm just happy for the team that we put in a good performance here today."

The Reds currently have several players sidelined but Blind insists United have the squad to cope with absentees and every player must be ready to take any opportunity they get to prove their worth on the pitch.

"Yes, we have a big squad. Everybody is ready and we need everyone," he added. "You can see that again today and we have to realise that as well that you have to be ready when you’re needed. That’s why we can still fight for what we want."
