Shaw: We Can Be Unstoppable In Europe

Luke Shaw believes Manchester United have what it takes to become "unstoppable" in their quest for Europa League glory.

United, who face a battle to hunt down their Manchester rivals if they are to achieve a top-four finish, currently sit fifth in the Premier League table, four points behind fourth-placed City - albeit with a game in hand.

With that in mind, Jose Mourinho's men know the Europa League offers a fail-safe in a bid to return to the Champions League next term.

The Red Devils continue their Europa League campaign when they travel to Anderlecht in the first leg of their quarter-final on Thursday and 21-year-old Shaw says his side are approaching the tie with confidence following a convincing 3-0 win at Sunderland at the weekend.

"It was a really good win and a really important one," the left-back said.

"We needed to win to fight for that top-four spot and this game should kick us to go on a winning run between now and the end of the season."

The England international admits each remaining fixture of the season is important but singles out Thursday's clash for having added significance.

"Every single game is massive now, but I think the one on Thursday is huge," he continued.

"We have to treat every game in that competition now like it's a final. We want to win that tournament.

"The Europa League is a massive thing for us now - it's a trophy and it gives us qualification for the Champions League.

"With the players we have got, we can be unstoppable."

Shaw was overlooked for the squad that travelled to St Etienne and Rostov, but a whirlwind week has given him hope of being involved in Belgium.

His United future looked to be under threat when he was publicly criticised by Mourinho, yet a meeting with the boss led to a substitute appearance against Everton and a start at Sunderland.

Mourinho commended Shaw's performance against the Black Cats, leaving the left-back feeling positive of future appearances.

"I've got a massive smile on my face," Shaw said after just his second league start in over five months.

"I felt really good, felt really fit and now on from here I just want to work hard in training and keep playing games. I feel really good, I feel really confident.
