Mitchell Eager For More

Demi Mitchell was over the moon after making his Manchester United debut in the 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.

In the last game of the league season, Mitchell made his first-team bow alongside fellow Academy graduate Josh Harrop in a youthful United side, while Scott McTominay made his first start and Angel Gomes came off the bench late on to become the first 16-year-old to play in the Premier League.

Mitchell, who impressed at left-back, told MUTV: "It was a great experience playing at Old Trafford. I was born here and now I’m playing here. It's what dreams are made of.

"I want to thank the manager and also congratulate the other guys. It was a great experience. I never thought all of us would be on the pitch at the same time."

Harrop marked his bow by hitting a stunning solo goal to put United ahead, six days after hitting a hat-trick for the Reserves at Old Trafford.

"Yeah, it was a great goal," Mitchell admitted. "He got a hat-trick the other day and scored two similar goals, so the confidence to score like that is obviously there and good on him for getting his first goal."

Having only recently converted to full-back from being a forward, Mitchell relished the chance to come up against in-form Palace winger Wilfried Zaha.

"It was a challenge; at Under-23s level you don’t come up against many players like that, so it was a really good experience," the 20-year-old said.

"I am learning in every Under-23 game and today I have learned a lot. I am still developing and learning that side of my game and I also can add that attacking part of my game too. I have had really good coaching from Nicky Butt and also from the Under-18s coach, so it has all been good experience."

The Manchester-born defender was also keen to praise the older heads in the dressing room for helping him through his senior bow.

"All the lads were great, especially Paul (Pogba), (Michael) Carrick and (Phil) Jones next to me. They were great before and during the game; it was great to have them alongside to help me through the game and give me confidence."

After getting his first taste of senior action, Mitchell is targeting more appearances for Jose Mourinho's side.

"After the game, I kept thinking that this is what it is about, this is what dreams are all about," he admitted. "Hopefully I can play many more games at Old Trafford."
