Shaw Determined To Return From Injury

Luke Shaw is determined to put his injury troubles behind him and enjoy his best season yet at Manchester United, although the talented left-back is not putting a timescale on his return.

The 22-year-old England international has not played since suffering ligament damage in his foot during the 1-1 draw with Swansea City at Old Trafford on 30 April, but Jose Mourinho notably included him in the 27-man squad that has travelled to America for Tour 2017, presented by Aon.

While the team has trained at the impressive UCLA facility all week, Shaw and his injured team-mates – Ashley Young and Marcos Rojo – have been working hard on their rehabilitations.

After watching the 5-2 win over Los Angeles Galaxy at the StubHub Center on Saturday night, Shaw spoke to ManUtd.com and journalist Andy Mitten about his fitness and plans to return.

“I have been doing rehab each day and it is coming along really well,” Luke said. “I haven’t got a timescale but I am feeling really good, working hard and the sooner the better. Hopefully it is soon.

“I have been running on the treadmill, doing my leg weights, making sure my foot is strong, a lot of CV work to keep me in good shape. I am feeling really good. Watching the game today, I miss it and I want to be back out there as soon as possible and stay out on the pitch.

“I don’t want to be too hard, but I think sometimes I am unfortunate with the injuries and especially with my leg. But I don’t want to look back at that. This injury I have is an unfortunate one, but that is in the past now. I need to keep fit and I feel that this season I will.

“I feel this is my season to prove myself and I am feeling in good shape. In myself I feel confident. I want to show everyone that I believe in myself and show the manager that he can believe in me.”

A place in the tour squad was a big boost for Shaw and the former Southampton man says the manager has been extremely supportive. “Daily, when me and Ash tend to finish our sessions, we go over to see what the other players are doing and we see him,” Luke told us. “He asks how I am, how it is going and he keeps on top of how we are and to see how far along we are. He’s been great.

“I keep myself motivated in different ways, too. The fans especially keep me motivated. They are always sending good messages to me on social media. The players in the dressing room, without them it would be very difficult but they are all superb. They are a great bunch of lads. We all help each other when there are hard times. They want to see me back out on the pitch as much as I do.”
