Early team news for Wolves v United
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer faces a welcome selection dilemma this week, ahead of Manchester United's first away game of the 2019/20 Premier League season, against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium.
After our brilliant 4-0 win over Chelsea on the opening weekend, Ole will be considering whether or not to stick with the same starting line-up which so convincingly dispatched Frank Lampard’s side.
Summer signings Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka both impressed on their competitive debuts, playing the full 90 minutes at Old Trafford, while Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial led the line well and deservedly opened their goal accounts for the new campaign.
One decision facing the boss is whether to include Sunday's other scorer, Daniel James, from the start.
The 21-year-old replaced Andreas Pereira against the Blues with a quarter of an hour to play and netted his first United goal just seven minutes later.
The Welsh winger also recorded the game’s fastest top speed, 33.51 km/h, in what was a highly encouraging cameo appearance.
Scott McTominay, who was given the nod to start alongside Paul Pogba on Sunday, impressed when we last went to Molineux in April. He scored his first senior goal for the club, and will be hoping for a repeat of that personal performance, albeit with a better outcome than our 2-1 defeat.
Another midfielder who broke his United scoring duck against Wolves last season, Fred, could be in the squad after missing the Chelsea game, while forward Alexis Sanchez has been working hard on his fitness at the Aon Training Complex following a late return due to his involvement in Copa America.
Matteo Darmian, who didn't feature on Sunday, or in any of our six pre-season games, was pictured training with the rest of the squad on Wednesday morning
In terms of injuries, long-term absentees Eric Bailly and Tim Fosu-Mensah will be missing when we make the short trip down to the Midlands.
Bailly has been sidelined after an injury against Tottenham Hotspur in pre-season necessitated surgery, while Fosu-Mensah is still recovering from the knee ligament operation he had earlier in the year.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Joel Pereira has been loaned out to Scottish club Hearts for the remainder of the season.
HOW ARE WOLVES SHAPING UP?
The Wanderers play FC Pyunik tonight in the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie. Having cruised to a 4-0 victory in Armenia last week, Nuno Espirito Santo may look to rotate his side ahead of our Premier League clash on Monday evening, with new boy Patrick Cutrone in contention to make his first start for the club.
Jesus Vallejo, who arrived on loan from Real Madrid over the summer, could be involved after making the bench last Thursday, while youngsters Bruno Jordao and Pedro Neto will also look to stake a claim to feature against United.
The Midlands side kept the bulk of their squad together following last season’s seventh-place finish and have no major injury concerns.
The two coaches will provide updates on their players in their pre-match press conferences, which are scheduled to take place on Friday.
