Solskjaer's team news for Wolves trip
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects the same Manchester United players who were available for last weekend’s win over Chelsea to be available for Monday’s clash with Wolves at Molineux.
The Reds opened the 2019/20 Premier League campaign with an emphatic 4-0 victory over the Blues last Sunday at Old Trafford, in which all three of our summer signings featured. Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka played the whole 90 minutes in defence, while Daniel James came off the bench to score his first United goal.
Speaking exclusively to MUTV’s Mark Sullivan at the Aon Training Complex on Friday morning, Ole said: “We’ve had a good week, good training week, a competitive week so hopefully we can have the same squad and people available, unless something changes towards the end. There are still a few days until we play.”
After his interview with club media, the boss was asked about Alexis Sanchez's availability in his press conference. The Chilean wasn't involved in pre-season after participating in the Copa America with his country Chile.
“He's part of our squad and he's a very, very good player,” Ole told reporters. “He's just had a couple of weeks [of training], three weeks now, so he's a few weeks behind the rest, but he's very close to being part of it [the squad].”
Eric Bailly remains absent and is unlikely to return until around Christmas after having an operation on a knee injury sustained against Tottenham in pre-season. Meanwhile, fellow defender Tim Fosu-Mensah is still recovering from the knee ligament operation he had earlier in the year.
WHAT ABOUT WOLVES?
Our opponents were in Europa League action on Thursday night, beating Armenian side FC Pyunik 4-0 at Molineux to complete their biggest aggregate win in Europe – by an 8-0 scoreline – in the third qualifying round.
Nuno Espirito Santo made nine changes to his line-up for that game, from last weekend’s goalless draw at Leicester in their Premier League opener; the Portuguese coach handed starts to John Ruddy, Jesus Vallejo, Maximilian Kilman, Adama Traore, Ruben Vinagre, Romain Saiss, Morgan Gibbs-White, Pedro Neto and Patrick Cutrone.
Portuguese winger Neto, on his debut, opened the scoring before England Under-21 midfielder Gibbs-White netted his first competitive Wolves goal. Neto's compatriot Vinagre, a full-back, made it two goals in two European home matches for him before another countryman Diogo Jota added a late fourth.
No fresh injury concerns were reported after the game, so Santo has a fully fit squad to choose from for Monday’s match.
