I have chanced upon this wonderful website set up by the fans of Erika Sawajiri.

As many of you might not know, Erika Sawajiri is a Japanese actress who has acted in many dramas and movies, the most popular drama being 1 liter of tears which made people stand up and take notice of her acting talent.

In the drama, 1 liter of tears, Erika's portrayal of a 15 year old girl being striken with an incurable disease known as Spinocerebellar Degeneration made us realize just how wonderful it is to live life normally and that it should not be taken for granted. Her character willingness to live life to the fullest in spite of the immobility suffered during the course of her illness certainly inspires people to have another perspective of life.

Erika's father is Japanese while her mother is half French-Algerian and half Japanese. That's most likely the reason why her name is always written and credited in katakana letters, indicating that it's not not a typical traditional Japanese name. Besides her parents, she also has two older brothers. Her father owned sixteen racehorses, and that's probably why Erika loves horseback riding and horses. She entered Stardust through an audition, worked hard and slowly became a very popular actress and singer in Japan. Her reason for going to the audition was that she wanted to meet her idol, singer Amuro Namie.

Sadly though, her father died of cancer when she was in junior high and later, one of her brothers died in a motorcycle accident while she was in high school. Currently, her mother runs a restaurant and Erika sometimes helps out around the place.
