Goodies for Man. United At Goodison Park, Honours Even At Stamford Bridge

The title is virtually Manchester United for the taking, after a spectacular show of comeback to beat Everton 4-2 at Goodison Park.

Elsewhere at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea could only managed a 2-2 draw with Bolton. The result meant that The Red Devils have extended their lead at the top of the table to 5 points and the title virtually secured.

The title could be heading to Manchester United next weekend if they can win against bitter rivals Manchester City, and if Chelsea could not win against Arsenal.

So, with 3 matches left to play and with Manchester United and Chelsea due to meet later on 9th May for what could be deemed as the title decider, the race for the Premiership Crown is really heating up...... .

In the meantime, relive the excitement of yesterday's Premiership match played at Goodison Park and Stamford Bridge......

Goodison Park:

Everton 2 (Stubbs 12, Fernandes 50)

Bolton 2 (Michalik 19, Davies 54)

Goodison Park (12th min): The league-leaders start badly; Alan Stubbs's free-kick is deflected off Michael Carrick to give the Toffees the lead.

Stamford Bridge (19th min): Title challengers Chelsea also start poorly, as Bolton's Lubomir Michalik scores to give Bolton the lead.

Stamford Bridge (34th min): The Blues are back in the driving seat after Salomon Kalou's header and Jussi Jaaskelainen's own goal makes it 2-1

Stamford Bridge (54th min): Kevin Davies heads home a Bolton free-kick to make it 2-2 at Stamford Bridge and give the Red Devils a boost

Rooney Blasts Late Man. United Winner

Wayne Rooney's stunning last-minute winner kept Manchester United's hopes of reaching the Champions League final alive after an Old Trafford classic.

Cristiano Ronaldo's fifth-minute header put United in front, only for AC Milan to draw level through Kaka's angled drive after 21 minutes.

Kaka put Milan ahead from close range before the interval, but Rooney turned in Paul Scholes' cool pass on the hour.

Rooney then lashed a glorious 20-yard finish past Dida in injury time.

It was a moment of magic that gave United a precious lead to defend going into the second leg in Milan next Wednesday.

United opened in sparkling fashion, and it took a desperate intervention from Alessandro Nesta to divert Rooney's shot over the bar.

But they were soon ahead when Ronaldo met Ryan Giggs' corner with a firm header, which Dida palmed into the air and could then only divert into the net.

United were firing on all cylinders up front - but all the time Milan, in the shape of Kaka, were waiting to probe their suspect and under-strength rearguard.

And the strike they feared came after 21 minutes when Kaka took Clarence Seedorf's pass and accelerated away from Gabriel Heinze and fired a left-foot angled drive across Edwin van der Sar.

A high-quality encounter saw Rooney just fail to get on the end of Giggs' cross and Ronaldo bring a crucial block from Dida with a 25-yard power drive.

But Brazilian superstar Kaka was an ever-present threat, and he took advantage of shambolic United defending to grab a crucial second away goal for Milan after 36 minutes.

Kaka chased a long pass, and when Heinze and Patrice Evra collided, he moved smoothly into top gear to slide a perfect finish past Van der Sar.

Evra was then booked for dissent - a yellow card that rules him out of the second leg at the San Siro, an inconvenience United did not need given their lack of defensive resources.

Michael Carrick wasted a glorious opportunity to put United level after 47 minutes when he side-footed wide of an open goal when he arrived unmarked at the far post on the end of another dangerous Giggs corner.

Milan lost captain Paolo Maldini to a knee injury at half-time, then were robbed of Gennaro Gattuso with a knee problem - with the combative midfield man being replaced by Cristian Brocchi.

Kaka was giving a master-class, escaping the offside trap to shoot across the face of goal then playing a sumptuous one-two with Seedorf only to volley narrowly over.

United desperately needed inspiration, and a moment of genius from Scholes provided it as they drew level after 59 minutes.

Scholes instinctively lifted the ball into the path of Rooney, whose finish was half-stopped by Dida but rolled in.

United were suddenly buoyant again, and the unpredictable Dida saved brilliantly from Darren Fletcher after Rooney's cross was headed into his path.

Fletcher forced Dida into a save at his near post as United pressed for what would be a crucial lead to take to Italy.

Dida then finger-tipped Ronaldo's dipping drive inches wide as United mounted a spell of sustained pressure in the closing stages.

United's sheer courage was rewarded when Rooney ran on to Giggs' pass and fired past a startled Dida to send Old Trafford wild in celebration.

Man Utd: Van der Sar, O'Shea, Brown, Heinze, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Scholes, Ronaldo, Rooney, Giggs.
Subs Not Used: Kuszczak, Smith, Solskjaer, Dong, Richardson, Eagles, Lee.

Booked: Evra, Giggs.

Goals: Ronaldo 6, Rooney 59, 90.

AC Milan: Dida, Oddo, Nesta, Maldini (Bonera 46), Jankulovski, Gattuso (Brocchi 52), Pirlo, Ambrosini, Seedorf, Kaka, Gilardino (Gourcuff 84).
Subs Not Used: Kalac, Cafu, Inzaghi, Favalli.

Booked: Kaka, Bonera.

Goals: Kaka 22, 37.

Att: 73,820

Ref: Kyros Vassaras (Greece).

United go ahead when keeper Dida fails to claim Ryan Giggs' right-wing corner and palms the loose ball into his own net

Cristiano Ronaldo gets his head to the corner and then Gabriel Heinze's challenge forces Dida into the mistake

Ronaldo shoots as the home side look to compensate for their defensive injury problems by keeping the action in Milan's half

But United's shortcomings at the back are exposed when Kaka bursts past Heinze to slot home the equaliser on 22 minutes

Worse follows for United when Kaka puts Milan ahead after a mix-up between Heinze and Patrice Evra

Wayne Rooney levels in the second half by nudging the ball past Dida after being cleverly set up by Paul Scholes

And Rooney's injury-time strike gives United a 3-2 victory and a great chance of reaching the Champions League final
Old Trafford erupts - a draw in Milan in the second leg would be enough to take United through to the final in Athens

Cristiano Ronaldo Sweeps PFA Awards

Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year by the Professional Footballers' Association.

The 22-year-old winger is the first player to win both awards in the same season since Andy Gray in 1977.

The Portuguese has recovered from the controversy of last year's World Cup to help United battle for three trophies.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba was second and Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes third in the senior award.

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs, last year's winner Steven Gerrard of Liverpool and 19-year-old Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas also made ths shortlist.

Ronaldo was booed at the start of the season for his part in Wayne Rooney's sending off in the quarter-final match between England and Portugal in Germany.

But he has bounced back superbly and has so far scored 16 Premiership goals this season to fire United to the top of the table.

The winger said it was a big honour to be singled out by his peers.

He said: "It is a special night. It is amazing and a big honour for me to win trophies like this in the English Premier League. I am very proud.

"My colleagues have voted for me and that is fantastic because the players know the qualities of players.

"I want to keep working hard and getting better because these trophies have now given me more motivation.

"This great team has helped me because when the team wins it is easier for us all to play with more confidence."

Fabregas was second and Tottenham's Aaron Lennon, 20, third in the voting for the young player award.

Ronaldo's team-mate Wayne Rooney (21) was also shortlisted, as were Reading striker Kevin Doyle, 23, and 18-year-old defender Micah Richards of Manchester City.

Eight Manchester United players made it into the team of the year while manager Sir Alex Ferguson was honoured with the PFA Special Merit Award.

Ferguson paid tribute to Ronaldo, who joined United from Sporting Lisbon in a £12.2m deal in August 2003.

"At this moment in time, I think he is the best player in the world and his season has been incredible," he said.

PFA Premier League Team of the Year:

Edwin van der Sar, Gary Neville, Nemanja Vidic, Rio Ferdinand, Patrice Evra (all Man Utd); Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Cristiano Ronaldo (all Man Utd) and Steven Gerrard (Liverpool); Didier Drogba (Chelsea) and Dimitar Berbatov (Tottenham)

Cristiano Ronaldo has had a season to remember so far

Deadlocked At St. James Park

Chelsea failed to close the gap on Premiership leaders Manchester United after a goalless draw at Newcastle

The Blues would have been just one point behind the Reds had they won at Newcastle but never really found their form and created few openings.

Frank Lampard shot over, Salomon Kalou had a tame stab at goal and Joe Cole missed by inches in injury time.

Chelsea keeper Petr Cech made a good save from Kieron Dyer, while Obafemi Martins headed over from a corner.

But in truth it was a poor game - and an especially disappointing performance from Chelsea given the opportunity that was before them.

Jose Mourinho's team rarely looked like taking advantage of United's draw at home to Middlesbrough on Saturday.

The weekend's results mean Chelsea are three points behind United, who they play on 9 May, but with a vastly inferior goal difference.

There were no clear-cut openings in the first 45 minutes, though Newcastle played with the greater sense of urgency and did create several half chances.

Kieron Dyer hooked the ball wide under pressure, while a deflected Martins strike missed the target and a promising position for Stephen Carr came to nothing after he cut in from the left.

Chelsea went in to the match with Michael Ballack and Claude Makelele restored to the starting line-up.

But German Ballack limped off after 18 minutes following a heavy challenge from Titus Bramble.

The Blues did have one opening in the first-half, but John Terry headed wide from a Frank Lampard free-kick under pressure from Antoine Sibierski.

Terry cut a frustrated figure as he appealed for a penalty, claming that Sibierski had impeded his run.

Chelsea played with more endeavour and purpose after the break - and soon created an opening, though Lampard drilled the ball over from 10 yards.

Newcastle underlined their attacking threat with two chances in a minute.

Cech smothered Dyer's shot after Nicky Butt had played him in, and from the resultant corner Martins, unmarked, headed over.

Chelsea responded, with Butt clearing up after Kalou guided the ball goalwards following a low drilled cross from substitute Joe Cole.

Mourinho introduced Andrei Shevchenko with 15 minutes remaining and the visiting team - with a great record of scoring late on - pushed forward in search of a decisive goal.

Terry's entanglement with Sibierski continued - and the Chelsea skipper's rant at referee Mark Halsey hinted at his growing frustration.

Cole deflected a Paulo Ferreira cross narrowly wide in the third minute of stoppage time as Newcastle held on to claim a point and dent Chelsea's title aspirations.

Newcastle 0-0 Chelsea: Neither side creates a real chance of any note in a dull opening half at St James' Park

There is a slight worry for Chelsea when Newcastle defender Titus Bramble clumsily clatters into Michael Ballack

And following treatment from the physio, the Blues midfielder is forced to leave the field - Jon Obi Mikel replaces him

After the break, Kieron Dyer finds himself through on goal, but Chelsea keeper Petr Cech deflects his shot over the bar

Salomon Kalou goes close for the visitors, turning Joe Cole's cross goalwards, but Nicky Butt clears the danger
The Blues introduce Andrei Shevchenko but their search for the decisive goal ends when Joe Cole deflects a cross wide

Chelsea close the gap at the top of the Premiership to three points, while the draw also guarantees Newcastle's safety

Boro Dent Man. United Title Chances

2 points dropped against Middlesbrough early sunday morning (Singapore time) could prove costly for the Red Devils in the title race against Chelsea.

United took an early lead when Kieran Richardson slotted home after Wayne Rooney had collected Paul Scholes' pass and rounded Boro keeper Mark Schwarzer.

But in first-half stoppage time Boro deservedly equalised as Mark Viduka's diving header beat Edwin van der Sar.

United struggled to break Boro down after the break and were indebted to Van der Sar's save to thwart Viduka.

If United had had any nerves about their absorbing title duel with Chelsea they should have been dispelled thanks to Richardson's third-minute goal.

Scholes' raking pass took Jonathan Woodgate out of the game to release Rooney, who wasted no time in taking the ball round Schwarzer.

Rooney's final touch on the ball was a little too strong, but it made no matter as Richardson stepped in to sidefoot home.

The Old Trafford crowd could have been forgiven for expecting an avalanche of goals at this point, but Boro failed to play the role of willing lambs to the slaughter.

Belying their mid-table position, Boro were impressive following their uncertain start and dominated for long periods due to their midfield control.

Woodgate was superb for Boro, with his reading of the game at times quite imperious.

As Boro regrouped United were indebted to some brave defensive play from Wes Brown, who first tackled Yakubu and then came across to block Stewart Downing's attempted cross.

Viduka castigated Downing for not delivering his cross more quickly, but when the England international picked up on the ball on the left at the end of the first half he had clearly learned his lesson.

Downing whipped in a cross to the near post and Viduka stole in between Rio Ferdinand and Brown to send a diving header past Van der Sar.

With United due to face AC Milan in their Champions League semi-final on Tuesday, Ryan Giggs had started the game on the bench, but Viduka's goal saw the Welshman stripped and ready to go for the start of the second half.

But it was Boro who initially threatened in the second period when Viduka bamboozled Brown allowing the Australian a clear sight of goal.

This time Van der Sar got the better of Viduka, spreading himself to make a good save.

United brought on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but it was Boro who next threatened as Lee Cattermole went agonisingly close with a powerful shot.

Solskjaer did get the ball in the net, but all he earned was a booking for unsporting behaviour towards Schwarzer.

And late on United might have concede a penalty when Dong-Gook Lee went down following a John O'Shea tackle.

Mark Viduka (bottom left) dives to head home Middlesbrough's equaliser in the Barclays Premiership draw with Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Man Utd manager Sir Alex Ferguson:

"It's a big task now.

"The injuries to Rio Ferdinand and Kieran Richardson killed us in the first half.

"But that was just the bad breaks you get in football, there is nothing you can do about it."

Middlesbrough manager Gareth Southgate:

"We wanted to have a go and our front boys were a real handful.

"They were some outstanding defensive performances as well.

"We showed real character after the worst possible start.

"We might even have pinched all three points and the longer it went on you could sense the crowd getting edgy

How To Spend your Weekend at Home......

I am probably spending too much as of lately, and pay day is still 13 days away. I am currently left with $150, and have to try to use it wisely.

Its not that I am that poor so as to scrimp and save for every cent in order to make ends meet. I can comment that I am neither poor nor rich, maybe a bit richer than my peers.

I have a rather regimental approach when its comes to spending money. I will set myself a fixed sum to spend and will try not to overspend. This approach has been instilled in me when I was young, when my parents told me that money is harder to earn and definitely easier to spend.

Sometimes, it is alright to go out and have some fun rather than to live within your means. As long as you have control of your finances, a bit of occassional overspending is fine.

Maybe I have been overspending as of lately, and will try not to go out during the next few weekends. I think you can still have fun at home.

As you might be wondering, how do I have fun at home? Its easy. Just read on and see what a pleasant weekend you probably will have.

I say, invite your friends over and have a smashing good time!
