Music Album Review -- Cyndi Wang (Magic Cyndi)

Oh dear, is sweety princess Cyndi Wang revamping her image?

In her latest album titled Magic Cyndi, Cyndi shows us a different side of her.

On the cover of the album, Cyndi shows us her slim legs while dressed in high heels and long flowing white gown. Photos in her album also shows her bare backed, with fish-net stockings which shows off her slim figure.

Recently, we have witnessed another cutie by the name of Rainie Yang trying so hard to be sexy while in the movie Spider Lilies. Rainie plays a stripper in the controversial movie and shared a kiss with co-star Isabella Leong.

So, who is more convincing in being sexy? I can say that neither of them manages to change my perception of them being cute in the first place.

Okay, back to the review of Cyndi's new album. This latest offering by her comes after an absence of 15 months. The tracks in the album are more or less the same, the sugary tunes strictly for teenagers and fans of her.

Two tracks are worth listening to, namely track 1 (Ai de tian ling ling) and track 2 (na nian xia tian ning jing de hai). Track 1 has some indian influence on it, whereas track 2 is a song dedicated to her late best friend (Xu Wei-lun), according to Cyndi during an appearance of a variety show.

Overall, the album is a decent effort. I can say that its a bit bland and predictable.

3 stars out of 5.

DVD Review -- Jolin Tsai (Di Cai)

If you think you can, you can!

Yes, sexy Taiwanese singing diva Jolin Tsai thinks she can. In fact, she has already put in much hard work, sweat, tears and blood to reach the kind of status where she is presently at.

Having a perfectionist streak in her, Jolin demands more than just 100% in whatever she does, in order to be an all-rounder performer.

The DVD release of Jolin's hugely successful 'Dancing Diva' concert clearly describes how she transform from a fresh faced teenybopper to a diva which everyone wants to emulate.

Besides the usual concert highlights, the DVD -- titled Di Cai, also includes 4 bonus music videos and a special featurette on Jolin's thoughts, comments and preparation for the concert.

According to insiders from the entertainment industry, many described Jolin as determined, hardworking and always having a positive attitude in whatever things she does. She also has the burning passion for performing, and is always welcome to attempting new things just to let everyone see the different sides of her.

One interesting point to note about the dancing diva is that this tag is not born with her the moment she stepped into showbiz. According to her dancing mentor, Jolin is very stiff when asked to perform a dance routine for the first time. Her somewhat awkward movements during the dance almost made the mentor to surrender and wave the white flag. But Jolin remained undaunted by her inability to dance and has challenged her mentor to give her another chance. Through hard work and countless practices, Jolin is labelled by the media as the dancing diva which she is now known as.

For those people who missed her concert in Singapore just 2 months ago, do not worry. This DVD will enable you to get into the groove and dance to her tracks in no time. Be mesmerized by her dazzling costumes, stage presence and dancing talents. Do also watch out for the opening performance in the concert, in which she performs aerial gymnastics while being suspended in mid-air.

Jolin Tsai, the diva who turns the impossible into possible, someone who never gives up till she excels or reaches the peak in whatever she does....... .

If you think you can, you can!

Have you seen this “hotel” before? The cute and cool sleep pipes which designed by Austrian designer Andreas Strauss are located in a park next to the Danube River in Ottensheim, Austria.

The drain pipes has a window, bed and electricity but no toilet. Anyway, you still can go to nearby public toilets to take a shower. In addition, you can pay any amount that you like when you stay in this unique”hotel”. For sure, as high as possible! It’s really a cool and incredible idea, right?

Movie Review: Spider Lilies

Lesbian themes aside, heard that this is a very nice movie.

“Spider Lilies” will be showing in local cinemas next Thursday (June 14).

The lesbian-related movie, directed by Zero Chou, had received great reviews from recent Berlin Film Festival, and is highly anticipated by movie fans.

In the film, which is possibly Asia's answer to “Brokeback Mountain”, Rainie plays a girl, who strips on Web cameras and gets involved with a female tattoo artist, played by Hong Kong actress Isabella Leung.

The controversial role has set the Asian media and audiences abuzz with enough curiosity and anticipation to warrant a box-office success.

“Spider Lilies” has already sold an impressive 10,000 tickets in its pre-sale and grossed NT12 million ($548,000) within two weeks in Taiwan, despite a small opening in only 11 theatres on 30 Mar.

In Hong Kong, it reaped HK$1.23m ($239,000) during its opening weekend last month, and also earned rave reviews from critics.

Its official website (http://spiderlilies-movie.com/) drew a staggering two million hits, with many Netizens gushing over the 'beautiful' cinematography, the 'deeply moving' love story and the 'good acting'.

Director Zero also won international acclaim when she took home the Best Gay/Lesbian Film award at the prestigious Berlinale International Film Festival in February.

Rainie Yang is trying to shake off her cute image in the movie. Korean star Bae Yong Joon stripped for his debut film “Untold Scandal”, and it created so much hype because the gentlemanly actor played the 'totally unimaginable' role of a flirtatious playboy.

Other good-looking stars like Louis Koo and Vicki Zhao have also played ugly characters in the name of art - Louis playing a drug addict in “Protégé” and Vicki an acne-stricken bun seller in “Shaolin Soccer”.

Movie Plot:
Jade (Rainie Yang) is a webcam exhibitionist who visits a tattoo parlour looking for a sexy decoration to excite her clients. She requests for a spider-lily tattoo similar to the one framed at the tattoo parlour but the female tattoo artist, Takeko [Isabella Leong], is reluctant to accede to her request. Visiting Jade's website, Takeko finds out that they knew each other 10 years ago when Jade had a crush on her.

David's Review:
Spider Lilies (刺青) is a Taiwanese movie starring Rainie Yang (楊丞琳) and Isabella Leong (梁洛施). Yang plays the character of Xiao Lu (小綠), a webcam girl who decides on getting a tattoo (the name of the movie in Chinese means tattoo). She then meets tattooist Takeko (Isabella Leong). The main plot of the movie centres around the relationship between the two women.

I think the key theme of the movie is how events of the past can weigh heavily in the present and prevent people from being what they truly want to be. Both characters suffered losses as a result of the 921 earthquake and these continue to haunt them in the present. Xiao Lu seeks to connect with Takeko in order to return to a happy moment in the past. Her role as a webcam girl means that she is frustrated by her isolation and lack of relationships in the real world.

Takeko has tried to suppress those memories and still lives with a great burden. She has to care for her brother, A-qing (阿青), who suffers from dissociative disorder (解離症). She feels responsible for him after losing her father in the 921 earthquake. Two of the other main male characters in the movie are both interesting and complex. There is A-dong (阿東), the epitome of taike (台客), who hangs around the tattoo parlor. And Da Yu (大宇), a young police man with a stutter who watches Xiao Lu via the webcam. They seem like an adjunct to the film when they could have played a greater role in it. The movie is well shot and edited and the stars give good performances in a touching drama. According to today's Taipei Times the movie had the fifth highest box office takings in Taipei last weekend. This is quite good considering it was showing at only a limited number of cinemas. It is a pity that it wasn't given more promotion and a wider release, because with two big stars it has what it takes to be a success.

Man. United Seal Deal For Hargreaves

Manchester United have confirmed that England midfielder Owen Hargreaves will join them from Bayern Munich on 1 July.

United have not yet disclosed the fee for the 26-year-old but it is believed to be in the region of £17m.

Hargreaves has agreed personal terms and passed a medical so now he only has to officially put pen to paper on what is expected to be a five-year deal.

"Owen will formally sign his contract when he returns from a holiday at the end of June," read a United statement.

Hargreaves, who is taking a family break in his native Canada, has been a long-time target for United

United chief executive David Gill told MUTV: "It is no secret that we tried to get Owen last summer. We tried again in January but to no avail.

"Thankfully, we have managed to secure him now and we are delighted with that.

"It is good business for us, good business for Bayern Munich and good business for Owen. He is a great signing."

Hargreaves enjoyed an illustrious 10 seasons at Bayern, winning six league titles and the 2001 Champions League.

But his final season was plagued by injury and ended with Bayern finishing fourth in the Bundesliga, thereby missing out on Champions League qualification.

Hargreaves had a four-month lay-off at the start of the campaign because of a broken leg and went on to play in only nine league games.

He will also miss England's matches against Brazil and Estonia in June because of a knee problem.

The announcement of Hargreaves' arrival at Old Trafford comes less than 24 hours after it was revealed that United had agreed "in principle" to sign Brazilian midfielder Anderson, 19, from FC Porto and Portuguese winger Nani, 20, from Sporting Lisbon.

The deal for the duo could amount to a total of £30m.

And Gill hinted that could be the end of the club's summer signings, saying: "We will see what happens over the next two or three months but by and large that will be the major element of our business.

"If a player comes up that Sir Alex is convinced will make us better, I am sure we will find the funds but that is a major bit of business we have done this week."
