Sadler Welcomes New Regime

David Sadler has backed the appointment of Louis van Gaal and believes the decision to award Ryan Giggs a prominent role in the new regime will reap dividends for Manchester United.

Giggs will work alongside the experienced Dutchman as assistant manager and, with van Gaal's Netherlands through to the last four of the World Cup finals, excitement is building at Old Trafford ahead of the new campaign.

Van Gaal is earning plaudits for his tactical nous in Brazil and Sadler, a key member of the successful United side in the 1960s, has endorsed the new coaching team after hearing good things about the former Bayern Munich boss.

"He's a very experienced manager and has done just about everything in the game," Sadler told ManUtd.com. "He might win the World Cup with Holland - that would be nice.

"I've never worked under him but, by all accounts, he's a tough guy. He looks a tough guy and I'm not going to pick a fight with him! Stuff has been seeping out with people talking about him and, if half of those things are true, it seems we've got a very good manager."

Giggs took interim charge following David Moyes' departure last season, managing the team for the final four games before bringing down the curtain on a glorious playing career.

"I hadn't realised Ryan was so interested in coaching and getting the badges and certificates you need these days," Sadler admitted. "So it was absolutely fantastic that Ryan had that opportunity at the end of last season. He was never going to be appointed manager and, if you talk to him, I'm sure he will say that - but he might be manager one day.

"For a start, he looks to me to have that thing about him where he doesn't always say what he thinks, but he takes time to think a little bit about what to say.

"I'm absolutely delighted he's stayed. I think it's good for the club and for van Gaal, who is bound to bring a number of people in, but having Ryan there is terrific. It will be a fantastic new season and we're certainly all looking forward to it."
