Capital One Cup: Manchester United Face Trip To MK Dons In Second Round

Louis van Gaal's Manchester United will face MK Dons in the second round of the Capital One Cup.

United enter the competition a round earlier than the rest of the big names in the Premier League after their failure to make it into Europe this season.

It is the earliest United will have started the League Cup, in one of its many guises, since 1995 when they were stunned by York City.

Karl Robinson's Dons made it into the second round on Tuesday with a 3-1 win over fierce rivals Wimbledon.

The club's chairman Pete Winkelman told Sky Sports News: "It's the biggest game in the club's history and what a great time to get them as well.

"It's going to be a new-look United, the whole world will be looking at it and we can't wait to welcome them to Milton Keynes.

"We've been trying to get the stadium finished and it's only in the last year we've been able to put all out 30,000 comfortable seats in and I am sure all the United fans who come will have a fantastic night and enjoy the spectacle of football. We just can't wait to put the show on the road."

Last season's beaten finalists Sunderland will face 2011 winners Birmingham City and Newcastle face a long trip to Kent to take on League One side Gillingham.
