Fixture List Kind To United's European Campaign
Manchester United's busy and pressurised start to the 2015/16 season has been eased slightly by the news the Reds will play at home in the Barclays Premier League between the two crucial legs of the Champions League qualifying tie.
After the home opener against Tottenham Hotspur and a trip to Aston Villa in the second fixture, the Reds will have the crunch European assignment on 18/19 August and 25/26 August. At least there will be no travel in between the two legs - instead, Louis van Gaal's men will welcome Newcastle United to Old Trafford on the weekend of 22/23 August.
United's Champions League qualifying opponents will be announced on 7 August and if van Gaal's side are successful in the tie, the Reds will return to the continent's premier competition with the group-stage draw being made in Monaco on 27 August.
The first Champions League group matches will be played on 15/16 September, soon after United's blockbuster league encounter with Liverpool at the Theatre of Dreams.
It may seem a long way off but the Champions League final takes place in Milan next year, on 28 May, a fortnight after the final league fixture at home to Bournemouth is scheduled.
Fixture dates are subject to change.
