Evans Set For West Brom Medical
West Brom have agreed a fee with Manchester United for defender Jonny Evans and the Northern Ireland international is now set for a medical, according to Sky sources.
If that move goes through, West Brom defender Joleon Lescott is set to join Aston Villa for an initial fee of £1m, plus potentially another £1m in add-ons.
Villa have been looking for another option at the heart of their defence but the Baggies will not let Lescott go until they have acquired a replacement.
And the man they have in mind is Evans, who has fallen down the pecking order somewhat at Old Trafford.
The 27-year-old has enjoyed a trophy-laden nine-year spell with United, winning the Premier League title on three occasions.
Having come through the ranks at the club, he was given his first-team debut in 2007 and has gone on to make 196 appearances, scoring seven goals.
West Brom turned their attention to Evans after Tottenham centre-back Federico Fazio failed to agree a contract during a day of talks last week.
And Baggies boss Tony Pulis said on Friday: "Jonny would be a great signing for the football club but it's down to the money men and his side. It takes three parties, the player and the clubs.
"I'd love to sign Jonny Evans."
Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal had intended to play Evans in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Ajax on Thursday but pulled him out of the line-up when it became clear they were close to agreeing a deal with West Brom.
