When Will United Face Big Rivals?
The announcement of Manchester United’s 2015/16 fixtures gives fans the chance to identify the key clashes that could make or break the Reds’ campaign, and supporters won't have to wait long to see the players take on the Barclays Premier League's big guns.
An opening day clash with fellow top-five finishers Tottenham Hotspur at Old Trafford gives the campaign a lively looking start, and then one of the biggest games of any season follows just a few weeks later when Liverpool head to Old Trafford on 12 September*. United will make the return trip to Anfield on 16 January 16*, as Louis van Gaal’s men look to repeat last season’s league double over the Merseysiders.
The next month is set to further test the Reds’ mettle as the men from M16 head to the Emirates to face Arsenal on 3 October* before the first Manchester derby of the season comes hot on its heels on 24 October*.
United's first meeting with reigning champions Chelsea will be at Old Trafford over Christmas, on 28 December, when the Reds will aim to finish the calendar year in style. The return match at Stamford Bridge is scheduled for just over a month later, on 6 February* - the anniversary of the Munich Air Disaster.
The Reds will also face Arsenal in the second month of 2016, when Arsene Wenger brings his charges to Manchester on 27 February*. United will of course hope for better home results against the Gunners than last season's 2-1 defeat in the FA Cup and 1-1 draw in the league, the final first-team match at Old Trafford in 2014/15.
A raucous atmosphere will surely await the Reds at Manchester City's Etihad Stadium on 19 March*, before an often tricky fixture at White Hart Lane, against Tottenham on 9 April*, rounds off United's games against last season's other top-six teams.
